Welcome!
Randy Newman is one of the most sardonic, iconoclastic, musically adept and stylistically diverse singer/songwriters in the music industry. Born (November 28, 1943) into a family of musicians--most notably Alfred Newman, the acclaimed composer of a number of movie soundtracks as well as the ubiquitous 20th Century Fox theme--he is at once a gifted composer and a mordant social satirist. Like him or not, his songs, often character sketches drawn from our society's boorish, bigoted, born-again and often dangerous fringe, are likely to leave a lasting impression. As a composer he has been compared to George Gershwin and Kurt Weill, and his movie soundtrack work has now earned him 16 Oscar nominations ... and one honest-to-God Oscar!
